  • Left Behind?: Part 2

    The Truth about the Rapture

    David Brandt Berg

    June 2016

A lot of Christians who are expecting to get “raptured” (gathered into Heaven at Jesus’ Second Coming) before the Tribulation are going to get the shock of their lives, because that’s not going to happen. Jesus said so Himself: “Immediately after the tribulation of those days... they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matthew 24:29-31).

Many people confuse the final Great White Throne Judgment at the end of the Millennium with the judgment seat of Christ, which occurs 1,000 years earlier after the Rapture. The Judgment Seat of Christ is an entirely different judgment in which the saved, those who have received Jesus as their Savior, are judged by Christ and are rewarded according to their works. The Bible tells us that when the kingdoms of this world became the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, He rewards His servants the prophets and the saints, and those who feared His name, small and great.

I've read both Matthew 24 and Revelation 6 many times, but it wasn't until recently that I was struck by how the events foretold in those two chapters of the New Testament run in parallel.

Abiogenesis is a term that was apparently coined by Thomas Huxley in the 1860s. Commonly referred to as "Darwin's bulldog" for his aggressive promotion of Darwin's theory of evolution, Huxley attempted to patch the most obvious and fundamental hole in the theory by stating that life arose from non-life—that it was the result of the process of abiogenesis—in the long-distant past of the earth's primeval existence by some natural reaction that was possible then but impossible now.

Shortly before his death, in 1949, George Orwell wrote his final work, the classic 1984. It painted a picture of a chilling future in which the world had fallen under the rule of three great totalitarian governments. The government that controlled what had been Britain, and the United States was called Oceania and was ruled by Big Brother. In Oceania, the state was all important and to be served with unthinking loyalty. To achieve that end, its citizens had been divested of all privacy. Without privacy, there was no freedom.
